Library card and computer account

You will receive a Library Card and Photocopy Card on your first day of classes. You will then have access to the photocopier in the WLRC. You will also be given a user name and password to be able to use the computers in the Witer Learning Resource Centre (WLRC). You have wireless access throughout the building.

To print, use the printer located in the WLRC. You have been provided with a $20.00 printing account. The cost per page is 10 cents. WLRC staff can help you use the printer, if needed.

Book borrowing

IOBP students may borrow an unlimited number of books for a two-week period. This does not include reserve, reference or controlled access materials.

Requesting an item on-loan (recall)

You can recall a library item that has been checked out (or on-loan):

  1. Log into your e-Shelf Account, on the PRIMO search page, using your library "barcode", "last name", and "institution" to place a recall.
  2. Once the desired item is found through PRIMO, click on its "Checked out" status in red.
  3. Select a request "Recall" (in the drop-down menu) and click the "Go" button.
  4. Choose the "Pick Up All" location i.e. UW Optometry Circ Desk.
  5. Press "Submit Form" button.

You will receive an email notice when the item has been returned. Recalls take up to ten days to reach the Witer/Optometry circulation desk.

Requesting item delivery to the WLRC (hold)

You can request item delivery to the WLRC from the University of Guelph, Wilfrid Laurier University, and the Annex:

  1. Log into your e-Shelf Account, on the PRIMO search page, using your library "barcode", "last name", and "institution" to place a hold.
  2. Once the desired item is found through PRIMO, click on the link with the location and call number to place a hold on the item.
  3. Select a request "Hold" (in the drop-down menu) and click the "Go" button.
  4. Choose the "Pick Up All" location i.e. UW Optometry Circ Desk.
  5. Press "Submit Form" button.

You will receive an email notice when the item has been shipped from its location - the item will then take aprroximately one to three business days before it reaches the Witer/Optometry circulation desk.

Requesting journal articles from PRIMO

Note: You cannot request a journal article to be delivered to the WLRC that is in the Witer/Optometry collection. You are responsible for retrieving and photocopying any journal articles that are held in the WLRC:

  1. Log into your e-Shelf Account, on the PRIMO search page, using your library "Barcode", "Last name", and "Institution."
  2. Once the journal title of the desired article is found through PRIMO, click on the link "(View details)," under the title.
  3. Scroll down to click on the Request an article via TUGDoc
  4. Click on it and log in to the TUGdoc request with your "Barcode", "Last name", and click on “I agree – continue”.
  5. Choose the specific volume containing your article and click "Select from this list."
  6. Complete the "TUGDoc journal article delivery service page" and have the article sent to the Witer/Optometry Circ Desk.
  7. Press on “send your TUGdoc request”

You will receive an email notice when the article has been shipped from its location - it will then take approximately one to three business days before the article is delivered to your campus mailbox.

Borrowing from TUG libraries in person

Your WatCard/library card can be used at any of the TUG libraries to borrow books in person: How to get to Guelph or Laurier libraries.

Returning library items

If possible, please return your WLRC library items to our book bin or circulation desk. You also have the option of returning your items to the other locations.

Please note: Reserve items must be returned to the circulation desk

Library fines

All overdue material is subject to fines as follows:

  • Reserve overdues
    Items on loan for 1 or 3 hours - 5 cents per minute to a maximum of $100 per item.
    Items on loan for 1 or 3 days - $20 per day to a maximum of $100 per item.
  • Recalled Material
    $1.00 per day after the recall due date to a maximum of $30 per item.
  • All other materials
    25 cents per day to a maximum of $15 per item.

Other penalties and sanctions may apply.

WLRC study rooms

We have several group study rooms that can be booked by optometry students only for groups of three or more. Sign up is required per hour at the circulation desk.
