In celebration of our 40th Anniversary at the University of Waterloo, the School of Optometry honoured a select group of Distinguished Alumni. These awards were presented to alumni who have made significant and important contributions to the profession and to society. Presentations were made during our Research Symposium December 8, 2007.

In addition to the School of Optometry's own anniversary, the University of Waterloo also reached a milestone in its history as it celebrates its 50th year. The University has long embraced the ‘spirit of why not?’ which has led to a culture of practical ideas, innovative technology and highly trained young people.
Director's Message
Dear Alumni and Friends,
The University of Waterloo, School of Optometry's 40th Anniversary has been a year of celebration as we reflect on our many successes and achievements. When the School moved here from Toronto in 1967 it was the beginning of an era that would witness the evolution of the profession of the optometry and the launch of an internationally renowned research program. Much of this would not have been possible without those before us who had the vision and insight to strike out in innovative directions and create a culture of social responsibility and leadership amongst our graduates. To those individuals we will always be grateful.
As we come to a close of our 40th Anniversary and the University of Waterloo's 50th Anniversary, we thought it a fitting time to recognize and acknowledge alumnae of both our undergraduate and graduate programs who have gone on to make significant contributions to the profession and/or their communities. We were delighted by the number of nominations we received and are inspired and proud of the astonishing array of accomplishments of our alumnae over the years. We would like to take this opportunity to celebrate all of our graduates.
The UW School of Optometry, 40th Anniversary Distinguished Alumni Awards winners represent varying decades from the last forty years and have all made distinct contributions. We have also chosen one individual who exemplifies optometry's legacy prior to its arrival at UW. We are delighted to be able to honor their many outstanding accomplishments and applaud their commitment and enthusiasm to the advancement of the profession and their communities.
