Award details
The Biennial Alumni of Honour Awards were initiated in response to the overwhelmingly positive response in nominations that we received in 2007 for our Fortieth Anniversary Distinguished Alumni Awards. It made it apparent that the School of Optometry is fortunate to have many alumni who stand out as leaders and supporters and are significantly involved in the profession of optometry or vision science and/or their communities that deserve to be recognized by their alma mater for their contributions. These new Alumni of Honour Awards will now be presented every other year during the Canadian Association of Optometrists Biennial Congress. The next awards will be given out in 2011. We know that there are many other deserving alumni who we would like to honour. Watch for information in the coming year on how to nominate a colleague for the 2011 Alumni of Honour Award.
Award process
Award selection will be made by a committee including the Director of the School of Optometry or delegate, the Associate Director, Development & Alumni Affairs, a senior faculty member from the graduate program and the President of the Canadian Association of Optometrists or designate. All applications will remain active for the duration of 2 award cycles.
The School welcomes nominations for the Alumni of Honour Award from alumni, students, staff, retirees and members of the public. Self-nominations will not be considered. The nominees must hold University of Waterloo Optometry degree(s) (O.D., M.Sc. or Ph.D.).
To nominate an alumnus(a) for the Alumni of Honour Award, a nomination form must be completed, including all mandatory fields. The 2011 form will be posted at a later date.
